• First Ascent: July 14, 1865, by a team led by Edward Whymper, though tragically, four climbers died on the descent.
• Climbing: It’s a challenging climb, known for its steep slopes and difficult rock faces. The most common route to the summit is the Hörnli Ridge on the Swiss side.

The Matterhorn is also known for being the inspiration behind the shape of the Toblerone chocolate and features prominently in various tourist and adventure activities around Zermatt.
